Preventable stress is responsible for many of our problems in modernized society and it is time that we collectively address this most pressing problem of our culture.
When we manage our own stress response effectively, then we have fewer social, health, and money problems. Society greatly benefits and many costs are eliminated.
Stress is not a good or bad thing—it is the collection of biological functions that help us adapt to various aspects of our life.
The Comprehensive Life Stress and Risk Assessment Inventory is one of the first attempts to actually assign a risk assessment to common stressors we face. What over 100 years of stress research from many disciplines has told us are that the stressors in our life are additive.
What does “additive” mean?
To make this concept easy to understand, think of our stress responses as the mechanisms we use to adapt and to change to meet the environment’s demands. Living creatures are highly flexible with adapting to many types of environments.
We as people are no different. However, what we as scientists have not understood clearly until recent decades is that there is a limit for which we can exploit these mechanisms. Like a muscle that is overused, our stress mechanisms fatigue when we have too much stress, and ultimately become damaged.
This is why when we are very stressed or traumatized, our bodies become more vulnerable to stress-related illness, disability, and even early death. We also become more susceptible to more financial and social problems as well.
The premise of this survey is to make an inventory of all your life stressors. Since some stressors are more intense and damaging than others, we score some stressors differently than others.
You will be making an inventory of six different areas of common stressors
1. Life changing stressors
2. Routine stressors
3. Physical and chemical stressors
4. Biological stressors
5. Social stressors
6. Childhood stress
At the end of each section, enter any additional stressors that were not listed previously in the form provided. I will evaluate and add these for future participants.
Take your time to complete the inventory thoughtfully. If you need two or more sessions to complete the survey, the application will save your data. This may take you several hours or more to complete.
Lastly, please enter in any corrections, user issues, or suggestion for improving this survey before you hit the submit button.
After you submitting your answers, you will receive a report reflecting high-stress areas in your life as well as a basic assessment of LOW, MODERATE, or HIGH stress and what type of implications these types of results present. These results may surprise you.
You will also receive a copy of your scores by email.
